4 new green vehicles for the Pomezia freight terminal
- 2 locomotives and 2 cranes to support the modal shift
- 3.4 million in investment, also financed with PNRR and PNC funds
Rome, 27 November 2024 - Four new green vehicles from FS Group’s Polo Logistica have entered service at the Pomezia freight terminal. These include two electric-powered locomotives for train maneuvering and two cranes for handling containers and semi-trailers.
These innovative vehicles support modal shift at the terminal managed by Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, with a total investment of €3.4 million, partly funded by the PNRR and the National Complementary Plan.
The new Vaiacar locomotives can travel both on roads and rails and are used for railway maneuvers, capable of pulling up to 4,100 tons. The four road wheels provide maximum flexibility for movements within the terminal, enabling rapid rail maneuvers in limited space. Developed and built to guarantee top performance in terms of reliability and sustainability, the 100% electric power supply eliminates CO₂ emissions entirely. The two locomotives are co-financed for 30% by funds from the National Complementary Plan provided by the Locotractor Decree.
The two CVS Ferrari reach stacker cranes, on the other hand, allow for the handling of mobile containers, semi-trailers, and containers. With a lifting capacity of 45 tons and a telescopic arm that offers greater storage capacity and operational flexibility, these cranes are the most modern currently built in Italy. They are also equipped with advanced systems that significantly reduce environmental impact by optimizing fuel consumption and reducing emissions. The investment is funded for 48.5% by PNRR funds.
“The purchase of new vehicles for the Pomezia terminal is an important milestone for the industrial development of the Polo Logistica, which sees fleet renewal as a strategic pillar to guarantee increasingly efficient and, above all, sustainable services throughout the supply chain,” said Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics.
“The Pomezia Terminal reaffirms its key role in intermodal freight transport in central Italy. These new technological vehicles allow us to speed up maneuvering operations and improve the quality of services offered, to increasingly meet customer needs,” concluded Livio Ravera, CEO of Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal.
