De Filippis: "Over 2 billion in 5 years for intermodal logistics"

‘We are aiming for increasingly integrated, intermodal and sustainable logistics, and to achieve this, FS Group plans to invest €2.16 billion over the next five years.’ This announcement was made by Sabrina De Filippis , CEO of FS Logistix, during the conference ‘The opportunities of the Mattei Plan for businesses’ organised by Confindustria in Genoa. ‘The investments - said De Filippis in her speech - will significantly accelerate the modal shift through a major renewal of the rolling stock, with electric and latest-generation vehicles, terminal and strategic asset development, sustainability and, above all, technological innovation.’

This is a real change of gear in terms of digitalisation for a company such as FS Logistix, which provides 118,000 connections across Europe every year, with 60% of its revenue coming from international traffic. The goal for the future, as emphasised by De Filippis, is to ‘significantly increase the share of goods transported by rail - which today in Europe - stands at around 17% and in Italy drops to around 11%’.

To achieve this, according to the CEO of FS Group’s company responsible for logistics, it is essential to respond to customer needs in the best possible way. ‘This is why we have recently launched the Integrated Digital Platform, a single interface for our Italian and international customers, with a new integrated offering and the possibility of finding customised solutions from first to last mile, enhancing intermodal transport.’

In this scenario, noted De Filippis, ports play a crucial role in connecting different transport carriers. The sea is the beating heart of those connections, the foundation on which to build 'new paradigms of trade and transport, representing an unrivalled strength for the Italian system, which we have the duty to enhance in order to consolidate the excellence of Made in Italy globally’.

In this scenario, Genoa plays a central role, with a strategic port for Central European industry. 'The second largest in Italy in terms of goods flow - noted Sabrina De Filippis, who then mentioned the main infrastructure projects the FS Group is working on - such as the Terzo Valico, through which the city will increase its role as gateway to Northern Europe, with Alessandria potentially becoming a strategic and innovative hub equipped with cutting-edge technological facilities.’
