Eight Stadler EUROLIGHT dual locomotives acquired

FS Logistix has selected Stadler's bi-mode locomotive platform EUROLIGHT Dual for its company Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal. The locomotive will enable the company to enhance the efficiency, flexibility and sustainability of its services across the national network. The order further consolidates the success of a locomotive family specifically developed for Italy and represents a further step in FS Logistix’s strategy to modernise its assets.

 

The EUROLIGHT Dual was specifically developed for the requirements of the Italian railway network. Combining 3 kV DC electric traction with a Stage V diesel engine, the locomotive enables seamless operation across both electrified and non-electrified routes. Characterised by high performance, low weight and a reduced axle load of just 20 tonnes, it is suitable for operation on both main lines and secondary lines throughout Italy. The Bo'Bo' locomotive delivers up to 3 MW in electric mode and a starting tractive effort of 330 kN, while incorporating ETCS B3R2, SCMT and SSC safety systems to ensure full compatibility with the national network.

 

Locomotives are of strategic importance

In addition to its operational versatility, the bi-mode concept contributes to more sustainable  transport. The locomotive can operate under electric power wherever catenary is available, reducing fuel consumption, emissions and noise. Regenerative braking further improves energy efficiency by feeding energy back into the overhead line.

 

FS Logistix, the logistics company of the FS Italiane Group, is pursuing an extensive transformation programme aimed at developing an increasingly integrated, sustainable and customer-oriented European logistics system. The eight EUROLIGHT Dual locomotives are part of this broader investment plan and will support FS Logistix in improving operational efficiency, service reliability and environmental performance.

 

A locomotive tailored to the Italian market

Investing in the future
