First Antwerp-Milan connections kick off

FS Logistix connections between Antwerp and Milan kicked off, with the first train from Belgium arriving in Segrate.

The service is the first stage in the agreement signed a few days ago between FS Group's logistics company and Lineas, the largest private rail freight operator in Europe, for management of the Antwerp Mainhub rail terminal and the commercial lines between Belgium and Italy.

Five round-trip connections per week are scheduled between Antwerp and Milan, operated by Mercitalia Intermodal with Lineas traction, for transporting intermodal units of different sizes and types of goods. Each year, the service will take more than 13,000 lorries off Europe's roads, and prevent the emission of more than 46,000 tonnes of CO2 compared to lorry transport.

The service also includes the option of integrating national connections, such as to the Pomezia terminal, thus expanding the domestic distribution network.

This strategic partnership aims to improve the efficiency and connectivity of rail freight services between Belgium and Italy, with potential expansions to France, Germany and Eastern Europe. The project is part of FS Logistix's 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, aimed at expanding the company's presence in the European market and offering efficient and sustainable logistics solutions.
