First Ferro-Road-Sea Synergy for Transporting Concrete Prefabricates from Tuscany to Sardinia

Baraclit, Polo Logistica, and Grendi Group Collaborate for Integrated and Sustainable Transport

  • Baraclit, Polo Logistica, and Gruppo Grendi together for integrated and sustainable transportation
  • For the construction of a shopping center

Arezzo, 20 June 2024 – A new ferro-road-sea synergy has been launched from the province of Arezzo, aimed at the integrated and sustainable transport of large concrete products.

Thanks to the collaboration between the Baraclit group, FS Group’s Polo Logistica, and Grendi Group, for the first time in Italy, concrete prefabricates are being transported using a mix of transportation modes: rail, sea, and road. The load is initially loaded onto a train at Baraclit’s facility in Bibbiena (AR) and quickly reaches the port of Marina di Carrara via Mercitalia Rail. This transportation method removes about 600 trucks from the roads in Tuscany and reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 210 tons compared to road transport.

Once it arrives at Carrara port, the cargo is loaded onto Grendi’s ship bound for Cagliari. Upon arrival, the material is stored and transferred to trucks for the final delivery to Elmas, for the construction of a shopping center.

This project represents an effective combination of operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, demonstrating how the use of combined transport modes can significantly reduce ecological impact.

An innovative example of low-emission mixed mobility, aligned with the sustainability goals of the three participating companies.
