HSL Belgium wins shunting tender at Antwerp port

For managing first and last mile operations in Antwerp port area 6A (Marshalldok)

FS Logistix, through HSL Belgium, will manage rail shunting operations at the Antwerp port.

The Belgian company, a subsidiary of TX Logistik, won the tender for managing first and last mile operations in Zone 6A (Marshalldok) of the Antwerp port. HSL Belgium will take over a crucial role, by managing green rail logistics and shunting, with new-generation hybrid locomotives.

The tender award comes on top of FS Logistix's recent take-over of 30% of management shares of the Antwerp Mainhub terminal operations, in partnership with Lineas, and of the commercial lines between Belgium and Italy. These strategic initiatives will improve the efficiency and connectivity of rail freight services with Belgium on major European routes.

"We continue to pursue our internationalisation path, with the goal of becoming the European integrated logistics leader - said Sabrina De Filippis, FS Logistix CEO. This successful tender award, through our company TX Logistik, confirms our endeavours to strengthen our presence in Europe, offering end-to-end solutions and presiding over the main freight corridors of the TEN-T network. Through this strategy, we have already taken over the managing shares of one of the Antwerp Port Terminals, and launched new Belgium-Italy connections."

Shunting operations will be carried out with hybrid vehicles, to support HSL Belgium's transition to a fossil fuel-free railway market. The first DE18 hybrid locomotive - "The Lion" - is already operational on the tracks between Antwerp North and Antwerp Petrol. And the commitment to sustainability is pursued further, with another brand-new DE18 hybrid locomotive being commissioned, to replace the old diesel models.
