Multimodality, strategic priorities, investments, modal shift
<<Third and final stage: Central Italy>>
Presented in Rome, during the final stage of the roadshow "Logistics at the service of businesses and the country," the "Programmatic Manifesto for a new era of Logistics" with the needs and proposals to ensure a more efficient, sustainable, and integrated future for the logistics system and goods mobility.
Ten programmatic points, signed by representatives of Institutions, Associations, and businesses, for the logistics of the future that must focus on multimodality, with greater integration between various transport modes, investments in infrastructure, terminals and new trains, digitization to modernize the sector, and sustainability. Moreover, the establishment of a logistics school is fundamental to train new generations ready to contribute to the sector's development.
The event, organized by Mercitalia Logistics, the leading company of the FS Group's Logistics Hub, and Uniontrasporti, was an opportunity for dialogue to "systematize" the elements that emerged during the previous stages in Milan and Bari.
An occasion to recall the sector's numbers in the central Italian regions, which sees over one million active businesses and a commercial exchange of about 54 million tons of goods in 2022, with strong growth from 2021 (+15%), for a total value of over 220 billion euros. Goods that travel mostly to Germany, France, and Switzerland, crossing the Alpine passes, which currently present objective difficulties in train circulation due to numerous interruptions for works and unpredictable disruptions.
After the institutional greetings from Antonio Paoletti, Acting Vice President of Unioncamere, Ivo Blandina, President of Uniontrasporti, and Fabrizio Dell'Orefice, Head of Institutional Affairs Italy FS Italiane Group, speeches were given by Antonello Fontanili, Director of Uniontrasporti, who presented the report on logistics needs, infrastructure performance, and intervention priorities for Central Italy, and Marco Fossataro, Head of Administration, Finance & Control of FS Italiane Group, who presented the FS group's strategies for future mobility.
As with the previous stages, Morena Pivetti moderated the debate on the territorial Logistics System, with speeches by Francesco Acquaroli, President of Marche Region and delegate of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, Eugenio Giani, President of Tuscany Region, Fabrizio Ghera, Councillor for Mobility, Transport, and Territory Protection of Lazio Region, Enrico Melasecche, Councillor for Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Mobility of Umbria Region, Vincenzo Garofalo, President of the Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, Luciano Guerrieri, President of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority, and Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics.
In the concluding phase, the contribution of institutions further broadened the analysis perspective on the needs of businesses and infrastructure interventions, thanks to the speeches of Enrico Maria Pujia, Head of the Department for Strategic Planning, Infrastructure, Network, Information, and Statistical Transport Systems of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and Amedeo Teti, Director General for the Protection of Industrial Property at the Italian Patent and Trademark Office of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy.
"The partnership between the chamber system and the FS Group's Logistics Hub - states the acting vice president of Unioncamere, Antonio Paoletti - has allowed us to compare the transport demand needs of the business system with the solutions offered by rail freight transport services, highlighting a national infrastructure system with strong contrasts between North and South but at the same time with various opportunities. The chamber system, which holds important stakes in strategic infrastructures, wants to do its part by also enhancing the analyses and data that Uniontrasporti has developed."
"During this final stage of the roadshow organized with Mercitalia Logistics, we emphasized the centrality and relevance of the activities we are carrying out with the drafting of the White Books - declares Antonello Fontanili, Director of Uniontrasporti. With the Infrastructure Equalization Fund, financed by the Chamber system, we have involved over 2,200 participants in 95 tables, emphasizing the needs of territories and businesses. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with Mercitalia Logistics of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group and the success of the roadshow Logistics at the service of businesses, we have laid the foundations for the realization of a unique dialogue between operators, institutions, and stakeholders, with the aim of giving continuity to this initiative."
"Today we launch the Logistics Manifesto: 10 programmatic points to trace the line to follow for the future of the sector. Investments, digitization, multimodality, and training are the cornerstones for optimizing ongoing processes and launching new ideas such as the creation of a Logistics School. We sign it today, together with representatives of institutions and businesses, on the occasion of the final stage of the roadshow," declared Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics. "During the 3 events, over 40 representatives of institutions and businesses engaged in 5 roundtables, with the participation of over 300 people. These occasions allow us to dialogue with our stakeholders to transform their needs into new traffic, ensuring that our over 100,000 trains per year can increase and connect territories in a capillary manner for the benefit of the country's economy. We are working to become the European logistics player, so that Italy can be the true driver of the economy towards Europe and all the countries south of the Mediterranean."
