Marcianise (Caserta), October 29, 2018
On October 29, 2018, the Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Luigi Di Maio, participated in the presentation of Mercitalia Fast, the innovative high-speed freight transport service by the FS Italiane Group. The service, which will be operational starting from November 7, 2018, will connect the Maddaloni-Marcianise (Caserta) Terminal with the Bologna Interport, operating Monday through Friday with a travel time of 3 hours and 30 minutes, thanks to the use of the Italian High-Speed/High-Capacity network.
Mercitalia Fast is the world’s first high-speed freight transport service by train, using a train equipped for transporting roll containers. The service reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 80%, compared to road transport, with an expected reduction of about 9,000 trucks per year on the A1 highway. Additionally, Mercitalia Fast was awarded the Logistics Award of the Year by Assologistica.
The service is designed to meet the needs of express couriers, logistics operators, manufacturers, distributors, and real estate developers, and represents an important step for the future of freight transport in Italy, aiming to further integrate the High-Speed/High-Capacity rail network with market needs.
