Mercitalia Rail: procedure starts for 70 new locomotives

The fleet renewal plan of the Polo Logistica continues.
The procedure for purchasing 70 new locomotives by Mercitalia Rail, a company of the Polo Logistica within the FS Group, has been launched. These locomotives are intended for rail freight transport with a full-service maintenance agreement for 30 years. An option for purchasing an additional 30 locomotives is also included.

 

The deadline for the procedure is set for July 19, 2023.

This activity confirms the commitment of the FS Group and Polo Logistica to offer the rail freight market high-performing and modernized vehicles. In 2024, 45 new locomotives will enter service within the Polo, including 20 for the national market and 25 for international traffic.

 

Additionally, 115 intermodal wagons have been recently purchased for the German company TX Logistik. By 2032, Polo Logistica will boast a fleet of 400 new locomotives and 3,600 state-of-the-art wagons, along with a revamping operation on the entire existing fleet. This will reduce the average age of the vehicles from 30 to 7 years.
