De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics: “Integrated rail-road transport services to offer customers first and last mile solutions”
Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, a company of the Polo Logistica of the FS Group, acquires a business segment from Auta Marocchi S.p.A. in its logistics branch in Terni, specialized in rail freight transport.
The contract has been signed through which the MIST company, responsible for the handling and integrated logistics activities for the Polo, will guarantee end-to-end transport and industrial support activities for the core business of the FS Group. These activities include the transport of materials related to rail freight, with volumes currently amounting to approximately 20 million euros per year, which MIST performs on behalf of Group companies, particularly RFI and Trenitalia.
“Enriching the Polo Logistica with this business segment allows us to take another step forward in offering our customers transportation services from start to finish, from the first to the last mile, with a synergistic collaboration between rail and road,” says Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics, the leading company in the Polo Logistica. “This is in line with the strategies of the Industrial Plan, which in this segment, foresees increasing the share of self-produced road transport services up to 60%.”
The acquired business segment consists of 37 employees, including drivers, warehouse staff, and transport coordinators, as well as a fleet of specific equipment, including 9 tractors, 7 trailers, and 3 semi-trailers.
MIST will also continue the collaboration with Auta Marocchi for the use of articulated trucks. The Auta Marocchi S.p.A. Group, headquartered in Trieste, primarily engages in national and international road and intermodal transport activities and is one of the leading Italian players in the sector.
