Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal to take over the rail shunting services at the Savona and Vado Ligure ports

FS Logistix, through Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal (MIST), was the successful tenderer in the concession call for rail shunting services at the Savona and Vado Ligure ports. The concession will last five years, with the option to renew it for a further two years.

 

The contract was awarded by the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea's Management Committee, taking into account MIST’s industrial and operational expertise in rail and terminal service management. The award is part of FS Logistix and FS Group’s strategy to strengthen the integration between ports, terminals and national and European rail networks.

The service will be based on an integrated railway shunting and traction management model, and, as traffic increases, the control centre may operate 24/7, with digital systems in place to monitor and manage operations, along with environmental sustainability solutions, including biofuels such as HVO, which reduce CO₂ emissions by 55%.

 

The award will further boost railway freight transport development to and from the Savona and Vado Ligure ports, improving the competitiveness of logistics links and encouraging a shift from road to rail traffic, in line with the European decarbonisation targets and the strategic role of ports as hubs in the integrated logistics chain.

 

By winning this contract, FS Logistix takes another step in the direction of becoming a leading integrated logistics operator, supporting the development of intermodal transport and the sustainable growth of national and European logistics systems. What’s more, Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal reaffirms its strategic presence within the Italian port network, where it already manages shunting operations in some of the major ports - such as La Spezia, Livorno, Ravenna and Brindisi - and in logistics hubs - including Milan, Novara, Marcianise, Padua, Mantua and Castelguelfo.
