Genoa, 02 December 2024 - FS Group's Polo Logistica and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority have signed a protocol to promote digital integration between the Port Community System of AdSP and the technological systems of the Hub's companies.

The agreement was signed by Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics, and Massimo Seno, Extraordinary Commissioner of the AdSP Western Ligurian Sea.

The agreement will initiate an exchange of electronic data related to the main processes involved in rail transport services originating from or arriving at the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado. The communication between the information and digital systems of both entities will allow better scheduling and management of rail operations across the various players in the supply chain, accelerating both operational processes, such as shunting or loading/unloading operations, and commercial processes related to shipments, such as waybills. This will result in enhanced competitiveness for rail and intermodal transport to/from the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado, where Mercitalia Rail operates with daily connections.

The protocol follows those signed with the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority and the Central Northern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, forming part of a systemic vision that views ports as fundamental hubs for intermodality. It is also part of a broader program that the Polo Logistica is promoting with all port and interport entities. The goal is to foster maximum collaboration and connectivity between the different transport segments through innovative solutions, ultimately improving the efficiency of processes and services provided, which is key to generating value for industry and local territories.

“Digitalization serving logistics efficiency and intermodality. The third protocol on this topic, signed today with the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, confirms the work the Polo Logistica is doing to ensure faster and more efficient rail services," said Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics. "This digitalization path will allow for increased modal shift of goods from Italian ports to the national rail network and European rail corridors.”

“The signing of today’s agreement is aimed at presenting our mutual medium-to-long-term strategies and sharing future projects and possible areas of collaboration and synergy,” added Admiral Massimo Seno, Extraordinary Commissioner of AdSP Western Ligurian Sea. “Specifically, the strategies of the AdSP of Western Liguria are part of a set of ongoing or planned projects regarding last-mile and railway network interventions, which will create an infrastructure environment favorable to the development of rail and intermodal transport to/from the ports of Genoa and Savona/Vado. Rail and intermodal transport are essential for expanding the port’s market to international demand from Switzerland, southern Germany, Austria, and achieving sustainability and modal shift objectives.”

The agreement is part of broader initiatives contributing to the creation of the National Logistics Platform (PLN), coordinated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport through the in-house company RAM, with the aim of digitalizing the logistics sector.
