Polo Logistica wins Colgate-Palmolive tender

Mercitalia Intermodal, a company of the FS Group's Polo Logistica, has been awarded the Colgate-Palmolive tender for the 16th consecutive year to export personal care and pharmaceutical products to major European markets.

The annual agreement includes door-to-door transportation services between the Italian factory in Anzio (RM), the largest in Europe, and distribution centers in the Netherlands, France, Germany, and the UK. This is facilitated by six trains per week between the Pomezia terminal and Duisburg, the most important logistics hub in Germany.

“The partnership with Colgate-Palmolive, providing dedicated services from the factory to the European distribution points, represents the best example of our daily work,” said Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics. “This approach is a key part of our new strategic plan for 2025-29, where we aim to position ourselves more and more as a freight forwarder supporting the European industrial system, with a customer-centric approach and an end-to-end sustainable offering.”

The partnership also has significant environmental benefits, helping reduce international road freight traffic and lowering both CO₂ emissions and congestion on major European roads. Additionally, the project contributes to reducing product delivery times.

This is another step for the Polo Logistica to achieve the European Union’s decarbonization goals and promote an intermodal transport network to deliver goods more sustainably, with door-to-door services between key industrial areas in Italy and Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, and Scandinavia.

The Pomezia-Duisburg route is a strategic corridor for the Polo Logistica, as evidenced by the significant growth over the past 15 years, with shipments increasing from around 2,000 to 10,000 annually, removing nearly 20,000 trucks from the road and saving over 46,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
