TX Logistik runs more intermodal trains between Duisburg and Milan

Since the beginning of 2026, the two business locations have been connected by ten trains per week and two departures per day in each direction. Previously, there were six trips per week.

Consumer goods and all kinds of merchandise are transported on the route between the Ruhr region and Lombardy. Each train can carry 1,600 tons distributed across 34 loading units in both directions. There are no restrictions on transshipment from road to rail – everything from semi-trailers and 30- and 45-foot containers to 20- and 25-foot tank containers can be loaded. Even non-liftable semi-trailers of all types can be loaded onto the rail quickly and easily in just two minutes using the NIK (Neutral Intermodal Key, formerly Nikrasa) transhipment system developed by TX Logistik.

In future, transshipment in Italy's second-largest city will no longer be handled by Milan Segrate, but by the Milan Smistamento terminal (MIST und Messina). The change will provide TX Logistik with increased shunting capacities for smooth processes and more capacity in the front station. This will enable faster processing and greater flexibility with improved overall performance – to the benefit of the intermodal customers of the company, which belongs to FS Logistix (FS Italiane Group).

In Duisburg, the “Ziel Terminal,” in which TX Logistik has a stake, remains the hub for connections with Italy. It is located in the Duisburg port area in Hohenbudberg and has seven transshipment tracks, each 720 meters long, two shunting tracks, and two powerful gantry cranes for transshipment between road and rail.

According to TX Logistik, the increase in services is in response to sustained demand for goods transport between Germany and Italy. The aim is to offer freight forwarders and shippers even greater flexibility and planning security for the transport of their goods by rail by providing additional capacity. In Italy, TX Logistik has also set up its own dispatch center for the first time in order to strengthen cultural and linguistic customer proximity. The team of three employees is based at the Quadrante Europa terminal and interacts directly with the terminals from there.
