THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Even construction site activities become sustainable, thanks to some measures to mitigate the impact on the environment. The trains allow the disposal of excavated earth, linked to the works on the construction site for the construction of the HS station and the Florence bypass. The convoys, which leave from the construction site of the future Belfiore station, take the excavated lands towards the former ENEL mining area of S. Barbara in the municipality of Cavriglia, where they will be reused for the construction of a screen hill, as part of an environmental redevelopment and landscape enhancement project of a former mining area, from which lignite was extracted until 1994. Furthermore, the prefabricated "ashlars", the concrete blocks that form the lining rings that serve to fortify the tunnel of the bypass, also travel by train, allowing the impact to be limited both in terms of emissions and in terms of urban traffic congestion.

"The experience of the construction site of the Florence railway hub and the Belfiore station embodies more than any other the values of Partnership, Innovation and Eco-sustainability. By providing for the transport of the excavated earth by rail, we have contributed to significantly reducing both the environmental impact in terms of emissions and the impact on the lives of the citizens of a delicate and precious territory like Florence, diverting enormous quantities of transport to rail."
